Ahead of an expected unprecedented cold winter, Korea District Heating Corp. (KDHC) has conducted a drill to strengthen its capabilities to effectively cope with disasters during winter, the high season of heat supply.

KDHC conducted ¡°2024 Anti-disaster Regular Drill¡± in cooperation with the Seoul Metropolitan government, Songpa Police Station and other related organizations at Olympic Park in Seoul in accordance with the ¡°Basic Act on Disasters and Safety Management,¡± the corporation said on Oct. 21.

The latest drill, an improved version of a similar anti-disaster drill conducted last year, focused on skilled training of duties and roles corresponding to various stages under the jurisdiction of each organization head.

Supposing steam leakages, caused by ruptured natural gas pipelines, KDHC looked into how to cooperate with the Seoul Metropolitan Government, Songpa Police Station and other related organizations to cope with a potential disaster situation.

In particular, the drill, also attended by neighborhood residents, served as an opportunity to inform residents of the region¡¯s potential disaster plans and KDHC¡¯s readiness, thus securing trust of the corporation by dispelling misgivings over the possibility of disasters.

KDHC plans to build a stronger anti-disaster management regime by exploring and improving factors deemed insufficient based on the outcomes of the drill.

KDHC President Jung Yong-ki, who presided over the drill, gave words of encouragement to the participants.

¡°From now on, KDHC will ramp up anti-disaster capabilities by continuing to conduct drills effectively to brace for any disaster situation, and we will become an enterprise making a warm world by supplying a clean energy in a stable fashion,¡± he said.

KDHC Becomes 1st Public Entity to Get ¡®Overall A+¡¯ in ESG Evaluation for 3rd Straight Year

Korea District Heating Corp. achieved a feat once again in an ESG evaluation on sustainable management.

KDHC became the first public entity to get ¡°Overall A+¡± for the third straight year in the 2024 ESG evaluation, released by Korea Institute of Corporate Governance and Sustainability (KCGS), the corporation said on Oct. 28.

KCGS introduced an ESG evaluation to induce listed companies¡¯ sustainable management in 2011.

This year¡¯s evaluation targeted 1,066 companies on environment and social and governance categories.

In 2022, KDHC became the first listed public enterprise to obtain ¡°Overall A+¡± in an ESG evaluation, conducted by KCGS and selected as ¡°the best company.¡± The corporation was recognized for its excellent ESG management by becoming the first public entity to win a triple crown by grading ¡°Overall A+¡± in 2023 and 2024.

KDHC has implemented a project to develop a low-carbon, eco-friendly energy supply model utilizing waste heat of the semiconductor industry for the first time in the world, so the corporation was granted an ¡°excellent grade¡± the nation¡¯s first ¡°environment management level evaluation,¡± conducted by the Environment Ministry.

KDHC got an A+ Grade¡± in the environment category this year as it did last year in recognition of its efforts to spearhead eco-friendly management.

KDHC has been credited with conducting a special inspection of public facilities to protect not only its executives and staff members but also customers, leading safety management by building a field-oriented anti-disaster system based on ICT technologies and offering better services to district heat customers.

The efforts paid off: KDHC was granted ¡°A+ Grade¡± for the fifth consecutive year in the social category.

KDHC was rated ¡°A Grade¡± in the governance category in recognition of its continued efforts to improve governance, like the board of directors¡¯ evaluation, made as part of efforts to ramp up the board¡¯s activities and swift public disclosure.

KDHC President Jung said, ¡°KDHC has been implementing ESG management with a sense of responsibility as an eco-friendly energy public entity, and we will endeavor to make ESG achievements so that people can sense by leading the public sector.¡±
