Former Executive Vice Chairman Kim Jun-dong of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry took office as the 10th president of Korea Southern Power Co. (KOSPO).
KOSPO President Kim began his official duty after he took office at an inauguration ceremony at KOSPO headquarters at the Busan International Finance Center on Nov. 4.
In his inaugural speech, President Kim said, ¡°I will make KOSPO a company trusted and respected by the people by endlessly communicating and promoting shared growth with the region, in which staffers belong, to and cooperative companies that lead the power industry.¡±
President Kim released his management tasks, including commitment on the management principles of raising corporate intrinsic competitiveness; complying with national energy policies and their direction as a public entity; and maintaining the world¡¯s top-level safety management system with field-oriented management.
President Kim, born in 1961, graduated from Seoul National University¡¯s Political Department. He passed the 28th administrative higher examination in 1985 and began his public office career.
Kim held major positions, including spokesman, director in charge of industry policy and director in charge of industry economy policy, of the predecessor of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE), as well as deputy minister of energy resources and deputy minister of planning and coordination at MOTIE.
President Kim also served as secretary general of Korea Research Foundation and KCCI executive vice chairman after he exiting the public office.
KOSPO Pump-Priming SMEs¡¯ Exports
Korea Southern Power Co. is pump-priming export-driven economic growth by helping SMEs export $8.45 million.
A green energy and machinery plant trade delegation, jointly dispatched to Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates, by KOSPO and Busan Regional SMEs and Startups Office, reaped exports worth $8.45 million, KOSPO said on Oct. 24.
The trade delegation was operated as part of the ¡°25¡Æ K-Silk Road Exploration Project¡± designed to invigorate SMEs¡¯ exports.
The delegation consisted of 10 companies in the green energy and machinery plant sectors with high local demand in accordance with modes of nurturing new industries in the wake of the Middle East¡¯s reducing dependence on crude oil.
An export negotiation session, held in Abu Dhabi, was attended by 45 buyers from 24 companies located in the UAE.
They were engaged in trade negotiations over 87 cases worth $36.8 million. Out of the total, contracts worth $110,000 were struck on the spot, and additional deals on $8.45 million are to be signed.
Local companies showed keen interest in excellent technologies and products, produced by Korean companies, including marine pollution control robot, made by KOI.
They agreed to continue negotiations on an agent contract even at the end of the trade negotiations session.
KOSPO and Busan Regional SMEs and Startups Office toured Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC) along with member companies of the trade delegation and offered registration of vendor registration of the large-size project procurement companies, local entry information and networking opportunities to the latter.
KOSPO Wins Gold Prize at 2024 Taiwan Innotech Expo
Korea Southern Power Co. presented an entry, titled ¡°Thermal Power Plant Operation System and Its Method Using AI¡± at 2024 Taiwan Innotech Expo that took place at Taipei World Trade Center from Oct. 17 and 19 and took home a gold prize, KOSPO said on Oct. 22.
2024 Taiwan Innotech Expo, Taiwan¡¯s largest international exhibition, attracted to the tune of about 1,100 patents. The prize-winning patent was jointly developed by KOSPO and an SME.
It is a kind of the so-called AI power plant operation navigator guiding optimal operation through deep learning of KOSPO¡¯s operation data.
The patented system was devised for minimizing losses, caused by non-optimal operation patterns, and any operation crew member could enable optimal operation of power plants by maintaining standard operation patterns based on optimal operation routes suiting to each condition.
The system, installed at the central control room of KOSPO¡¯s Busan Bitdream Headquarters, has proved to have the effect of reducing operation costs.
The patent is to be presented as KOSPO¡¯s representative entry at the International Invention Fair of BIXPO 2024, to be organized by Korea Electric Power Co., and will have its technology upgraded.
