Samsung C&T Construction Group said on July 24 that it was jointly implementing the Front-End Engineering (FEED) design of the Romanian small nuclear reactor (SMR) with three global engineering giants — Fluor, NuScale, and Sargent & Lundy.
Earlier, Samsung C&T struck an MOU with Romanian Nuclear Power Corp. and five global nuclear leaders, including NuScale and Fluor, to cooperate in the full process of the Romanian SMR project and expand such projects.
The Romanian SMR project calls for replacing a coal-fired plant with a capacity of 462MW in Doicesti, Romania, with a 462MW SMR, based on NuScale¡¯s technology, evaluated to lead the global development of SMR.
The projected SMR is to be put into commercial operation by 2030.
With the launch of the FEED, the Romanian SMR project is to be in full swing.
Samsung C&T is to be in a better position of winning an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract after carrying out the joint FEED project for about one year.

Samsung C&T Construction Group is distributing ¡°Raemian Songdo Station Centripole,¡± the first housing project in the urban development of the Songdo Station area in Yeonsu-gu, Incheon, in October.
Samsung C&T Construction Group is responsible for all processes, ranging from planning to construction. The project calls for constructing 19 apartment buildings with up to 40 floors and a combined 2,549 units.
The apartments consist of 706 units, ranging from 59 sq. meters to 101 sq. meters in the first block, 819 units, ranging from 59 sq. meters to 95 sq. meters in the second block, and 1,024 units, ranging from 59 sq. meters to 101 sq. meters, in the third block. The units in the third block are to be initially put to the market.
Samsung C&T comes up with differentiated products, employing state-of-the-art technologies and reflecting housing trends.
The marketability of the apartments will be beefed up with the Raemian Artificial Intelligence, the contractor¡¯s AI application, solutions to cope with EV car fires, and a package of integrated quake-proof the Raemian Artificial Intelligence will employ not only face recognition of each unit and common entrances and voice recognition light switches, but also AI-enabled parking solutions, AI-enabled sensibility illumination and AI-enabled, real-time mosaic cameras.
AI-enabled solutions guide cars to parking areas, favored by occupants, by analyzing their usual parking patterns, and visitors will be guided to vacant parking areas near apartment buildings they want to visit.
Raemian Songdo Station Centripole will be characterized with solutions to address EV car fires that break out in EV charging areas.
All-in-one CCTV sets with built-in fire flame detention devices will detect fires and convey them to managers, allowing them to respond quickly.
Fire-fighting equipment for EVs will be installed to combat EV car fires in a swift fashion.
Integrated quake-proof packages will employ quake-proof water storage tanks and support props for firefighting, water supply and heating pipelines, allowing occupants to lead a safe life even in the case of earthquakes.
Senior Executive Vice President Kim Myung-suk, head of the Housing Business Division at Samsung C&T, said, ¡°We will offer safe residential life conditions by employing advanced AI technologies and safety solutions, and Samsung C&T will raise the brand value of Raemian by continuously developing differentiated products.¡±
