The 2024 Dreampark Chrysanthemum Festival, which opened in the wild-flower complex area of Sudokwon Landfill Management Corp. (SLC) for a 13-day run on Oct. 2, ended in great success with a concert for neighborhood residents on Oct. 13.

The festival attracted as many as approximately 250,000 spectators, the biggest-ever number — up to 43,000 people on a daily basis.

The festival served as an opportunity to facilitate communication and harmony with neighborhood residents as the company featured a variety of events, such as large-scale autumn flowerbeds, diverse performances and other activities.

The 2024 Dreampark Chrysanthemum Festival, the first in six years, received a positive reception among visitors, who said they enjoyed the participating programs and diverse foods to eat.

The 2024 Dreampark Chrysanthemum Festival attracts a large throng of visitors.

A neighborhood resident said, ¡°I¡¯m glad to see the Chrysanthemum Festival come back after a long interval, and I will revisit the festival during the event period, and I¡¯d like to frequent it not even during the festival.¡±

SLC President Song Byeong-eok said, ¡°The wild-flower complex, the venue of the festival, is the former burned coal briquette storage yard that has been turned into an environmental attraction through collaboration among SLC and neighborhood residents. The complex has been reborn as the region¡¯s representative resting place, as it was selected on the list of the top 50 urban woods.¡±

¡°I extend thanks to visitors and SLC will expand efforts to promote co-prosperity and cooperation with residents,¡± SLC President Song said.

SLC plans to keep on opening such places as the autumn flower zone and photo zones and cherish autumn¡¯s aura so that those who cannot attend the festival or want to revisit the site can enjoy autumn flowers.

SLC was established in 2000 to ensure the safe and hygienic disposal and recycling of waste produced by the 26 million citizens in the Seoul metropolitan area.

Transforming waste to energy, and landfills to Dream Park, SLC has grown into a resource circulation specialized entity that creates new values from discarded items.

Based on cooperation with the local community, SLC will continue its efforts to work toward a carbon-neutral society by spearheading national waste policies and greenhouse gas emission reduction.

The ¡±Dreampark¡± plan is to optimize functions of the reclaimed landfill site and change it to an ecological park.

The development of the ecological park aims to change the perception of the area from a waste landfill to a daily living space.

The park will, not only provide a place to relax for the residents of the metropolitan and regional areas, but eventually will stand as a globally reputable resort.
