Provides support to export companies by expanding freight space in Southeast Asia, thus greatly contributing to the region¡¯s economic growth

Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority (YGPA) said in September that YGPA attracted the Sinokor Merchant Marine¡¯s new container liner service for the Busan-Thailand-Saigon route to Gwangyang Port. 

Three ships, each with a capacity of about 1,800 TEU, will be put into operation in the new Southeast Asian route. 

It is expected to handle about 360 TEU per week and contribute to increasing the throughput of Gwangyang Port by 18,000 TEU or more annually. 

The Heung-A Hochiminh ship was to arrive at Gwangyang Container Terminal on Sept. 12 for the first time. 

The ports of call of the new service route are Pyeongtaek, Gwangyang, Busan, Shanghai, Hochiminh, LaemChabang, Bangkok, LaemChabang, Hochiminh and Pyeongtaek. 

YGPA of the new route will step up port connectivity with major trading partners, such as China, Vietnam and Thailand, and will provide support to export companies by expanding freight space for Southeast Asia, thus greatly contributing to the region¡¯s potential economic growth. 

YGPA President Park Sung-hyun said, ¡°The ¡®campaign designed to increase one more route of each liner¡¯ we conducted has paid off: Gwangyang Port has attracted a combined 31 new liner services since my inauguration.¡±

¡°YGPA will aggressively stage the campaign for increasing new shipping liner services from now on to make Gwangyang Port a competitive port.¡± 

Meanwhile, Gwangyang Port sees the number of ports connected via container liner services increasing to 82.5 per week, including the new service route.

French Luxury Cruse ¡®Le Soleal¡¯ Arrives at Yeosu Port

Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority said on Oct. 10 that Le Soleal, a 10,900-ton international cruise ship, arrived at Yeosu Expo Passenger Terminal the day before. 

The cruise ship, owned by Ponant of France, has 400 people aboard. 

That includes European area passengers and crew members, who came to the Yeosu Port via Okayama and Tsushima after leaving Kobe. 

YGPA offered seamless services to passengers along with CIQ authorities. 

The authority mobilized its affiliate Yeosu Gwangyang Port Management Co., security manpower and interpreters to provide services tailored to meet port calls of luxury cruise ships. 

YGPA offered free shuttles in cooperation with Yeosu City, Jeollanam-do Tourism Organization and other related organization, and the installation of local specialty product booths, making calligraphy on the occasion of Hangeul Day, publicizing the 2026 World Island Exhibition Yeosu, operating medical support teams, and welcoming and farewell performances.

YGPA President Park Sung-hyun said, ¡°Yeosu Port, boasting beautiful islands, differing from other regions and traditional cultural heritage, is a place suitable for port call of luxury cruise ships, and we will redouble efforts along with related organizations to aggressively attract international cruise ships.¡±


KITA Gwangju-Jeonnam Regional Office Joins Forces With YGPA

The Gwangju-Jeonnam Regional Office of the Korea International Trade Association (KITA) joined forces with Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority to provide support to regional export and import companies. 

The step aims to help companies in the Gwangju and Jeonnam region enter foreign markets and ease logistics difficulties they experience.
 
YGPA offered free shuttles in cooperation with Yeosu City, Jeollanam-do Tourism Organization and other related organizations.
