The Seoul Metropolitan Government will host the Seoul-Tokyo Forum 2024 from Oct. 16 to 18 (Friday) to find solutions for water management in large cities.
The Seoul-Tokyo Forum promotes exchanges of water management policies and research between the two cities.
Since 2007, the Seoul Metropolitan Government and Seoul National University, and Tokyo Metropolitan Government and Tokyo Metropolitan University have participated in the forum. It was held in Tokyo in 2023.
This year¡¯s forum will be participated by Seoul Water, Seoul Metropolitan University, the Tokyo Metropolitan Waterworks Bureau, Tokyo Metropolitan University and Fuji Tecom, a Japanese leak detection company.
Its program will include meetings to discuss urban issues, international seminars for advanced administrative and academic exchanges and field trips.
On the first day of the forum, a meeting will be held at Seoul Water to discuss current issues related to water management and policy issues of mutual interest between Seoul and Tokyo.
An international seminar will be held on Oct. 17, the second day of the forum at the International Conference Room of the Natural Science Center of Seoul City University, under the theme of ¡°Challenges and Solutions for Metropolitan Area Water Management.¡± In the seminar, Seoul Water and Seoul City University will make presentations on a total of 15 themes.
Seoul Water will present the case of ¡°building a Seoul-type water quality monitoring system¡± that discloses water quality information to citizens every 20 minutes via mobile phones.
An official of the Seoul Water Research Institute will speak about the case of efficient water treatment system operation through raw water quality prediction under the theme of ¡°smart water supply management through water quality prediction.¡±
Seoul City University¡¯s presentation will focus on microbial-based hazardous chemical contaminated water treatment technology and a study on a deep learning case for optimizing membrane filtration processes.
The Tokyo Metropolitan Waterworks Bureau and Tokyo Metropolitan University will make presentations on a total of eight topics including a case study on the field deployment of water smart meters, a case study on the application of AI to water treatment plants¡¯ equipment, and a model for boosting leak detection accuracy.
Between presentations, there will be time for open discussion and attendees are encouraged to ask questions and share their thoughts to enhance the quality and depth of the forum.
On the final day of the forum, on Oct. 18, participants will visit the Arisu Field Training Center, the largest water supply field training laboratory in Korea in the Arisu Gangbuk Water Treatment Center and the Han River.

¡°We hope that this forum will serve as an opportunity to diagnose water management problems facing large cities and find and develop wise solutions.¡±
