President Lee says ¡®Let¡¯s focus our all energies on efforts to reshape us into a global eco-friendly energy company surpassing its intrinsic mission of producing electricity¡¯

CEO Lee Jung-bok of Korea Western Power Co. (KOWEPO) delivers an inaugural speech at an inauguration ceremony at KOWEPO headquarters in Taean, Chungcheongnam-do, on Sept. 30. 


New CEO Lee Jung-bok of Korea Western Power Co. (KOWEPO) elaborated on his major management goals, such as raising the stability and efficiency of the power industry, and the successful energy transition as he took office.

KOWEPO held an inauguration ceremony for new KOWEPO President Lee at KOWEPO¡¯s headquarters in Taean, Chungcheongnam-do, on Sept. 30. 

Delivering his inaugural speech, President Lee said, ¡°We¡¯re passing a major turning point in the wake of the ¡®energy upheaval era¡¯ like eco-friendliness, decentralization and digitalization.¡± 

He quoted the Chinese saying ¡®talyeonggwallim,¡¯ meaning ¡®trailblazing under a big picture perspective to see woods, staying away from tree shades.¡± 

¡°Korea¡¯s high dependence on energy imports and the instability of the international situation has weighed on energy supply risks,¡± President Lee said. 

Securing fuel in a stable and economic manner - accounting for 75 percent of the annual budget of KOWEPO, the state-run power company serves as a pillar of energy security, pursing aggressively eco-friendly energy shift and expanding digital technologies are getting more important, he analyzed. 

President Lee urged his executives and staffers to face up to the current crisis and transfer it to opportunities.

He unveiled future core tasks and management goals, such as raising the stability and efficiency of the power generation business and successful energy transition; foremost management priority on safety; creating of sustainable and realistic future growth engines,; executing of communication and ethics management; and the establishment of merit-oriented personal management and flexible corporate culture.

Lee demanded a flexible response, according to management condition changes, staying away from stiff practices and formalities to step up KOWEPO¡¯s competitiveness and flesh-out mid- and short-term alternative options in a speedy fashion. 

He pledged to lend an ear of voices in the field and iron out reasonable decisions based on fairness and transparency. 

Last but not least, President Lee said. ¡°Let¡¯s focus our all energies on efforts to reshape us into a global eco-friendly energy company surpassing its intrinsic mission of producing electricity.¡± 

He called for bold challenges to become a global top-tier company by joining forces with one mind with the pride of KOWEPO people.

President Lee, born in 1963, graduated form Gyeonggi High School and Sungkyunkwan University Social.
